Did Intel copy AMD?

Intel has denied that it was lured into formula one at the thought of beating computer chip rival AMD.

Although BMW ultimately bagged the lucrative five year deal, McLaren actually nearly banked Intel as a title sponsor earlier this year.

But reports at the time suggested that Intel called it off because AMD – a Ferrari sponsor – became too closely tied to the governing FIA.

But amid new speculation that Intel was determined not to let AMD get the upper hand in one of the world's best marketing sports, the company has denied 'copying' AMD's strategy.

''We are a leadership brand,'' Intel VP of partner marketing, Ann Lewnes, told Reuters. ''We don't copy anyone.''
