Priaulx in the running?

BMW's world touring car champion Andy Priaulx has denied that he is now a frontrunner to become Williams' 'Friday' driver.

The Briton, under firm contract to Frank Williams' former works engine partner in 2006 and 2007, has been asked to drive the 'FW27C' as the Grove-based team kick off winter testing at Circuit de Catalunya.

It was earlier reported that either Narain Karthikeyan or Nicolas Kiesa would land the 'Friday' seat for next year, although the same sources insisted that one or the other would be confirmed prior to the Barcelona session.

Priaulx, 29, admitted that he is unable to match either pay-driver's sponsorship backing.

''I know that the third driver at Williams needs to bring a lot of money,'' Andy explained, ''which I don't have.

''I'm going to be in touring cars next year.''
