Polish driver to get Minardi seat

UPDATE #2 Robert Kubica's hopes of driving the third Minardi car at Shanghai in a week have taken a hit because the Polish driver has not yet won an FIA super license.

Team principal Paul Stoddart has told the 'world series by Nissan' champion that he can steer the 'Friday' PS05 in China, but only if he somehow manages to convince the governing body that he should be given the mandatory document.

A super license is only handed out after 300kms of F1 testing under FIA supervision. Kubica has not done this. ''If I don't receive the super license by Monday,'' Kubica admitted, ''I will not fly to China.''

10/03/05 Polish driver Robert Kubica will take the wheel of Minardi's 'Friday' car in China, if the FIA grant him a mandatory superlicense. The 'world series by Renault' leader would replace Enrico Toccacelo, who – while the F1 circus raced in Brazil – recently drove for Italy in the A1 category. Kubica is twenty. 09/29/05 There is a chance that Poland's Robert Kubica will be seen in the third Minardi at the Japanese and Chinese Grands Prix in October. Kubica is currently leading the way in the Renault World Series with four wins and a big advantage in the points as the series goes into its final races at Estoril this weekend and Monza on October 22-23. Thus far the 20-year-old from Krakow has scored 12 times in 17 races for his Epsilon Euskadi team, which is run by former F1 man Joan Villadelprat. Kubica has been racing since 2001, initially in Formula Renault and then in Formula 3. He moved to the World Series by Renault this year. Grandprix.com
