I smell a rat

A reader writes, Dear AutoRacing1.com, I read with great interest this Robin Miller article on ChampCar.ws that talks about Paul Tracy's rumored move to NASCAR. I have watched the IRL and NASCAR (i.e. the oval track cartel) pluck the biggest names (and sponsors, teams, etc.) out of CART/Champ Car in an effort to destroy it. However, it keeps ticking like the Energizer Bunny, and in fact is getting stronger. It must infuriate the cartel. I see this attempt by NASCAR to lure Champ Car's biggest remaining star as yet another attempt by the cartel to stick it to Champ Car. I small a rat and I hope doesn't bend over and take it up the you know what once again. Mordichai Rosen, LA, California

Dear Mordichai, Recall our report two years ago in Cleveland that Kyle Petty flew in to Burke Lakefront Airport in Cleveland on Wednesday before the race, walked into the office and asked where he could find Paul Tracy. They pointed him in the direction of Paul's motorhome. NASCAR has been trying to get Tracy for quite awhile it would seem, and the quest continues. Can we blame Tracy for wanting to make as much money as he can? No, but we do caution that as Miller's article pointed out, the NASCAR regulars are not going to cut Tracy any slack – a little bump here, a little nudge there….and off he goes into the wall. Just ask those that have gone before him. NASCAR controls (some say manipulates) everything, so don't think for one minute that RCR's efforts to get Tracy don't have the support of Mother NASCAR.
