F1 bosses face jail

F1 principals like Nick Fry face two years in jail if they fall foul of Britain's vague anti-tobacco advertising laws. The BAR boss, along with British based and tobacco backed rivals McLaren, Renault and Jordan, said he had spent the last six months trying to clarify with the UK government whether running a cigarette livery even outside of Europe breaks the legislation. ''We still do not know,'' he said.

A minister dismissed a question about whether F1 bosses could be sent to jail in a recent sitting of parliament, but Fry said that is not enough for a 'criminal' act. ''We haven't had anything firm yet.''

The law descends on July 31, the day of Sunday's Hungarian GP. A spokeswoman for Britain's department of health, meanwhile, said she expected written government advice to be issued before the deadline.
