Champ Car must convert attendees to fans

Readers of AutoRacing1.com know that we have pressed for Champ Car to start promoting their drivers better and to make the ones who deserve to be, heroes. All successful sports have athletes as heroes. That's what drives a sport.

This Edmonton Sun article proves our point – while by all measures the Edmonton race is a huge success this weekend, the fact of the matter is that 17 of 20 fans surveyed said they were there for the spectacle and were not huge race fans. We suspect you will find similar numbers at all these great urban racing festivals. Like NASCAR, Champ Car must figure out a way to turn these people into race fans so that their TV ratings will go up race in and race out.

As they say, 'It's all about the drivers, stupid.' As Champ Car solidifies its schedule and financial situation , it must now press the sponsors, promoters and the teams to focus on the drivers.
