‘Guilty’ teams to be cleared

F1's political war moved a step towards cease-fire on Thursday when the FIA senate agreed to overturn Michelin teams' 'guilty' verdict for the Indy no-show.

McLaren boss Ron Dennis, representing every Michelin team except Red Bull – but accompanied by Christian Horner – presented 'new evidence' to the Max Mosley-led body in Monte Carlo.

''(The) Senate was satisfied that the teams were contractually bound to follow the instructions of their tire supplier,'' an FIA statement later revealed.

''… having regard to this new evidence, disciplinary proceedings against the teams (has) ceased to be appropriate.''

The Senate's recommendation will now be put to the world motor sport council, which could, by fax, cancel the guilty ruling within days.
