Feds could nix Charlotte HOF deal

The North Carolina state House is scheduled to take a final vote today on a hotel tax increase to support Charlotte’s bid for the NASCAR HOF, state officials have asked federal highway officials to “examine whether Charlotte can use" $20M worth of land needed for the city’s proposed project. While North Carolina Gov. Mike Easley “is expected to approve" the tax increase after the House vote, state officials have found that the federal government has jurisdiction over the key piece of land. Charlotte Observer
