Wirdheim lands Champ Car ride

UPDATE #4 We are hearing more reports that talks are indeed underway that could see new investors becoming partners with Keith Wiggins in HVM, one of which is listed below. It is still up in the air whether the team will retain any of its Mexican connections. Unless Roberto Gonzalez or Rodolfo Lavin come through with their sponsorship, it looks doubtful, which could open the door for this team becoming "Team Europe." 03/31/05 Although we already reported this rumor as 'fact' yesterday, Autosport published these quotes from Wirdheim today Р"I have been trying to put a deal together in America for a while," he noted, "so it's great to be able to announce it at last. Keith [Wiggins] is a fantastic team boss, and he runs a really great team. I've seen how a few of the other teams operate here, and I'm really happy to be working with HVM." Wirdheim, who is set to fly to the team's base in Indianapolis on Sunday for final preparations, is looking forward to the start of the season, which opens at Long Beach on April 10. "I can't wait to start racing again," he smiled. "Working in Formula One was fantastic, but I am a racing driver and I really want to race. I have been keeping fit over winter, and I'm ready to go. Champ Car is going to be a great series this year, and I can't wait to get onto the grid at Long Beach." 03/30/05 We are upgrading this rumor to 'fact' today. AutoRacing1.com has learned that Wirdheim is signed at HVM. Mark C. 03/29/05 Our sources tell us that Swede Joel Wikell (right) could be the man behind "Team Europe" and the buyout of HVM. He is the guy that helped Bj̦rn Wirdheim throughout his career. He is a multi-millionaire and lives in Florida. He has a son in the early teens, Alexander, that is working his way up the racing ladders. 03/29/05 Our sources in Sweden tell us that Bjorn Wirdheim has closed a deal with HVM for 2005 and they hear Mario Dominguez is Forsythe bound as we rumored elsewhere. If Verstappen or Bremer end up in the 2md HVM seat, the rumor we reported elsewhere that the team may become one of the "European" teams will start to fall into place.
