Homestead to get lights

UPDATE Homestead is still waiting for FAA approval for the installation of lights at the Speedway. They are hoping for it soon. 03/06/05 Homestead-Miami Speedway is looking to go under the lights. Curtis Grey, president of the track, said nothing is final yet but the process is moving forward and, so far, everything has been positive. "We're still working through that approval process," Grey said. "But we haven't heard anything negative."

The Homestead Air Force base has given their approval to the lights. The city of Homestead is looking to add an additional substation "to give us more electricity," Grey said.

"A lot of it depends on TV and the sanctioning bodies," Grey said. "From the NASCAR side, we know what the schedule is in '05. Grey said the IndyCar race also will be taken under consideration for the time switch.
