Fernandez to run against own team

UPDATE #2 This rumor is upgraded to 'fact' today. See story on Hot News page. 03/21/05 This rumor is upgraded to 'strong.' Look for Mo Nunn Racing to announce a 1-race deal to run Adrian Fernandez in this year's Indy 500 Tuesday. A press conference has been scheduled. 03/05/05 Adrian Fernandez might be driving against himself at Indy. The co-owner of a two-car IRL team has not landed the funding to compete with his own crew, but he's negotiating to join Morris Nunn's team for a one-race deal. Nunn will be at Homestead today to meet with Fernandez's partner, Tom Anderson. Fernandez is racing in NASCAR's Busch Series race in Mexico City this weekend.

"We both want to make a deal happen, but we haven't made a deal yet," Anderson said. "We need to know whose setup sheet Adrian will use, whose (crew), what equipment Morris has left. All those things we hope to figure out when Morris gets here."

Nunn is positioned to switch to Honda engines, which Fernandez's team uses, but he declined to comment from his home in northern Florida. "We've got to finalize some stuff," he said. Indy Star
