Sepang to open ’06 calendar

Malaysia is likely to kick off next year's grand prix calendar. Sepang's general manager, Ahmad Mustafa, said he met with Bernie Ecclestone at the weekend to make the formal request. The 74-year-old F1 supremo answered 'positively,' Mustafa – also boasting of a record crowd at Sunday's grand prix – told a local newspaper. The opener is vacant following Melbourne's request to prevent a clash with their hosting of the Commonwealth Games. Mustafa continued: ''We are optimistic that our request (will) be considered positively.''
