SPEED Channel to offer simulcasting too

Not to be outdone by ESPN and ESPN2 with their simulcast of the IRL race from Homestead on Sunday,, and buoyed by record ratings in February, SPEED Channel plans for an affinity program and the possibility of a spin-off SPEED2 network are in early stages of discussion.

ESPN2 showed continuous in-car camera shots during the Toyota Indy 200 while ESPN showed the complete race coverage. If SPEED adds a SPEED2 they can offer similar coverage for Champ Car, NASCAR, Trans-Am and Grand-Am. Of course getting cable TV operators to add SPEED2 won't be an easy undertaking given the time it's taken SPEED to reach the number of households it has…..where it still lags ESPN by some 20 million.

With that said, NASCAR is helping propel SPEED Channel to new heights and there is no telling how popular SPEED will be in a few years. Without question they do justice to motorsports in the USA.
