Rocketsports to run 3rd car for Glock

UPDATE We are downgrading this rumor to speculation, and it would not surprise us one bit if Glock is the latest in a long line of Europeans to "use" Champ Car to get a better deal in Europe. Timo Glock is understood to be close to a Champ Car World Series drive with Rocketsports Racing, but could opt to pursue his career in Formula 1 according to Autosport. Glock, who is backed by Deutsche Post, tested for Rocketsports last month but has also been linked to a third driver role at Minardi. He contested four grands prix for Jordan last year, but failed to land a seat for 2005. Bernie Ecclestone does not want any of his flock of drivers and their sponsors to flee to the USA. Hence why behind the scenes just about every European driver ends up rejecting Champ Car and staying in Europe. Champ Car teams tested a lot of Europeans over the winter and not a single driver ended up in Champ Car. Has Champ Car just became a pawn in Bernie's game to protect his F1 base? 02/23/05 Timo Glock, who ran for Jordan last year in Formula One but recently tested a Champ Car at Sebring, is thought to be on the verge of signing a deal with Rocketsports to run the 2005 Champ Car season. He'd be teammates with Alex Tagliani and Ryan Hunter-Reay. SPEEDTV.com We have updated our 2005 Champ Car Silly Season page.
