F1 set for tire ‘furor’?

F1 could find itself in another '03-like tire controversy this year, Ferrari supplier Bridgestone has warned. Motor sport manager Hirohide Hamashima told Autosport that the new long life regulation risks tires falling outside the maximum 270mm tread width rule, following excessive use. ''I'm not only talking about (Michelin),'' he said. ''We are (also) paying particular attention to that.'' In 2003, Ferrari accused Michelin-shod rivals of racing too-wide a tire, causing a 're-interpretation' of the measuring method — and a furor.
