Canadian GP could move to Toronto

There is reportedly an effort underway to bring Canada's Formula One race back to Toronto. According to the Journal de Montreal, Russian-born Canadian businessman Alex Shnaider has been asked to lobby on behalf of those interested in shifting the race to Toronto from Montreal. ''It's very recent, we haven't had time to explore it, but on the surface it seems encouraging,'' Shnaider spokesman Ron Fine said from his Toronto office. ''I think it would be a great thing for the city of Toronto.'' Shnaider, the co-founder and chairman of Midland Group, recently purchased the Jordan Formula One team. A spokesperson for the team says Shnaider is interested in bringing the race back to Toronto but would also consider a scenario which would see the event alternate between the two cities. ''It's too early to say what the format would be,'' said Fine. ''Obviously we don't want to harm the sport. Would taking the race away from Montreal harm the sport? We don't know. All these things need to be examined.''
