Silverstone alone, Bernie wins again

UPDATE Well it looks like all the F1 venues are in Ecclestone's camp. British Grand Prix bosses have rebutted claims that they have specifically failed to back Bernie Ecclestone over the long-term future of F1 after sources close to the Australian GP promoter Ron Walker suggested that Silverstone was the only track “saying it will not join the campaign." “We have entered into a five-year contract with FOM which we are happy with," said Ray Bellm, the chairman of Silverstone Holdings Ltd, the operational arm of the British Racing Drivers’ Club. “Any views about GPWC are academic until they come up with detailed plans." BRDC chief executive Alex Hooton added: “I would say that I am slightly puzzled by these suggestions." Autosport Magazine 02/15/05 (GMMF1.NET) It's understood that every current grand prix circuit, except one, have lined up to back Bernie Ecclestone in the GPWC dispute. The lone venue, we can reveal, is a long-time Ecclestone antagonist — Silverstone, home of the recently embattled British grand prix. We reported earlier in February that Ron Walker, key Bernie ally and promoter of the Australian grand prix, lobbied every F1 track, urging them to snub the breakaway. [Editor's Note: End result, where will the GPWC race? Bernie has all the best tracks locked up. As for Silverstone – look for Bernie to announce a London GP, effectively putting Silverstone out of business. This whole GPWC threat is just Ron Dennis and his cohorts posturing to get as much money out of Bernie as they can.]
