VW to change name

(GMM) The largest European carmaker not involved with Formula One, Volkswagen, may be considering a change of name. The Wolfsburg-based brand, though, denied the media speculation, the press office insisting that the name is 'rooted in tradition.' Earlier, the German 'Bild' newspaper said parent company VW may become 'Auto Union' to differentiate between the Volkswagen and similarly-owned Audi vehicle lines. The VW holding company also controls Bentley, Lamborghini, Seat, Skoda and – soon – Bugatti. Earlier in 2004, Bernie Ecclestone urged the German manufacturer, whose boss Bernd Pischetsrieder attended the Bahrain grand prix in April, into F1.
