Spencer looking at some Cup rides

Jimmy Spencer is back at the track, though in a Busch ride, not a Nextel Cup ride, and looking for a Cup ride for next season. Hanging over him is the legal situation stemming from his arrest three weeks ago for resisting a police officer who had come to arrest his son for painting some cars in the neighborhood. Spencer declined to say much about his legal situation except to say it was on hold for the moment: "When the time comes, I can talk about it, but not right now." Others in a position to know offered more details of what happened that Sunday night in question, Oct. 25: According to these people, two officers came to the Spencer residence. One remained in the police car while the other came to the house. Spencer objected to the officers' presence when they said they didn't have an arrest warrant and he told them they had nothing more to say to them. Spencer then went to talk to the officer in the car, and the first officer objected and pushed Spencer away from the car and threatened to arrest him. When Spencer objected to that, the officer arrested him. "I've got some Cup possibilities for next year, some guys who want to run a limited schedule," Spencer said of his 2005 racing options. "Hopefully we can land something." Winston Salem Journal
