Kalkhoven Cosworth deal key to Jaguar future

This week's Autosport Magazine reports Champ Car series co-owner Kevin Kalkhoven is due to be announced as the new owner of Cosworth Racing early next week. Multimillionaire businessman Kalkhoven plans to continue the company’s engine manufacture and supply operations on both sides of the Atlantic, saving more than 500 jobs. The deal will also help secure the futures of the Minardi and Jaguar Formula 1 teams, both of which were supplied by Cosworth in 2004.

Meanwhile, Autosport understands that talks between Jaguar Racing and its sole remaining prospective buyer, Red Bull, have reached a conclusive stage in advance of the November 15 deadline for entries to be lodged for the 2005 world championship. The team is scheduled to test at Barcelona later this month with two silver-painted R5B chassis, which incorporate several elements of the 2005 R6 car. They will run with Cosworth engines. Continuity of engine supply was considered essential to the team’s 2005 competitiveness as the packaging of the R6 had been settled before Ford’s withdrawal.
