Mosley out to reduce manufacturer influence

According to this week's Autosport Magazine, Speculation persists that Mosley’s plan to switch to V8 engines for F1 is part of a wider FIA agenda to reduce manufacturer influence over F1 – a position he appeared to tacitly acknowledge when he told Autosport: “The best thing is to frame the regulations so that we are independent of the manufacturers. That way if they come into the sport, it’s fantastic, but it’s not a catastrophe if they leave. If we do not introduce 2.4-litre V8s,we will lose Ferrari and Renault from F1. We do not, however, believe that we will lose Mercedes, BMW and Honda if we do adopt 2.4-litre V8s." Autosport understands Ferrari is already well advanced with a development program for a 2.4-litre V8 engine.
