Brit GP looking good, to lose July date?

UPDATE Sports minister Richard Caborn, who has been involved in talks behind the scenes to try and save the British Grand Prix, told The Press Association on Tuesday that he was optimistic the race would be on the FIA's first draft of the calendar. “I am very hopeful that the British Grand Prix will be on the calendar for next year even though it may be subject to contract," he said. “I am also hopeful that we will get a two-year deal which will allow us to sit down and plan to realize the full potential of the Silverstone estate. "I would very much welcome its inclusion as it would be a major step in the right direction." 10/12/04 (GMM) The next challenge for a troubled British Grand Prix, is securing its traditional July race date, according to Max Mosley. Formula One's governing president said at Suzuka he has 'no reason to believe' that Bernie Ecclestone and Silverstone chiefs can not pave a solution to the current GP-threat. More pressing, the FIA's Mosley explained, is finding a summer spot on a rapidly filling 2005 calendar. He said: ''It's the date (for a reinstated British grand prix) that's going to be the problem.'' In 2000, a disastrous Brit GP – affected by incessant rain and miles of mud – was staged at Easter. The FIA, at a meeting of the World Motor Sport Council in Paris (Wednesday), will publish a provisional version of next year's F1 calendar.
