Andretti Autosport driver Takuma Sato (Honda0 topped the morning practice session at Barber Motorsports Park where all the IndyCar drivers and teams have assembled during the 4 week break between the St. Petersburg GP and the Long Beach GP. Another Honda, driven by Tony Kanaan was 2nd quick ahead of the Chevy of Will Power.

Honda had 5 of the 6 fastest times as Honda drivers Scott Dixon. Alexander Rossi and Mikhail Aleshin were 4th thru 6th.
