|Kurt Busch knows the Mickey Mouse Charlotte Infield Road Course would not excite race fans|
Former NASCAR champion Kurt Busch says running one of Charlotte’s two Monster Energy Cup races on its combined road course/oval would be a "tough sell" to fans.
Busch is a big fan of NASCAR’s two road course events at Watkins Glen and Sonoma – winning at the latter in 2011.
AJ Allmendinger tested his Cup car at Charlotte's infield road course last month, and after the test said he was all for a race on that version of the track.
"I don’t know how it would work, but our road courses work well," Busch told Motorsport.com. "They sell out, the fans are really excited to see our big, heavy stock cars in the combat zone, so to speak.
"Seems like over the years the gentleman etiquette of sportscar racing has dropped off, and the NASCAR element is there on the road courses. We just need seating.
"COTA has a lot of seats, but that track’s designed for cars with wings, not our big, heavy stock cars.
"We’ll see. If the oval in Charlotte with that road course works out, I think it’s going to be a tough sell. But I think it’s a good little stunt promotion from [Speedway Motorsports CEO] Marcus Smith." Motorsport
