Action Express Racing led the way in the opening day of testing at Daytona International Speedway, in preparation for next month’s Rolex 24 at Daytona.

The No. 31 Cadillac DPi-V.R of Dane Cameron, Eric Curran, Mike Conway and Seb Morris unofficially laid down a best lap of 1:38.766 late in the day to go quickest of the five Prototypes in action.

It came after a troubled day for all three Cadillacs, which battled electrical issues tied to an overnight software update from Cosworth.

Both the No. 31 entry and the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac didn’t make the three-hour morning session, and turned only a total of 19 and 20 laps, respectively, on Tuesday.

The two cars ran without telemetry and completed short stints in the afternoon. Adding to the issues, the No. 31 car was seen getting a push start from pit lane.

Action Express, however, managed to get its No. 5 Cadillac running from the late morning through the rest of the day, completing 56 laps with Joao Barbosa, Christian Fittipaldi and Filipe Albuquerque at the wheel.

The pair of Riley-based prototypes from Mazda and VisitFlorida Racing, meanwhile, also battled unrelated teething issues, and were unofficially some two seconds slower than the Cadillacs.

The No. 90 VisitFlorida Racing Riley Mk. 30 Gibson laid down a best lap of 1:40.714, while the No. 55 Mazda RT24-P recorded a 1:41.117 from the morning.
None of the times from the new DPi/LMP2 cars were representative of their true potential, with all teams still at the early phase of development.

Corvette Racing was quickest in GT Le Mans, with a 1:45.442 lap set by the No. 3 Corvette C7.R, while the No. 27 Dream Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 led the way in GT Daytona, thanks to a 1:45.957, also set in the morning.

No major incidents were reported, with teams back on track tomorrow for the second and final day of testing. John Dagys/Sportscar365
