IMS adds karting competition to Battle at the Brickyard weekend

Instead of holding a 400-mile IndyCar season finale at Indy, the Speedway will hold a 'gazillion' different events to dilute the Indy 500 and IndyCar. We suspect some day they will even bring swamp buggy racing in

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway and United States Auto Club announced that a karting competition would be added to the schedule of events for the annual "USAC Battle at the Brickyard" quarter midget event July 6-9.

"Many of the legendary champions that have driven at IMS got their start in karting," said Indianapolis Motor Speedway President Doug Boles. Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon and Dan Wheldon started their racing careers in go karting.

The one mile race course will use the north section of the IMS road course.
