The Ligier JS P3s will be racing in the IMSA Prototype Challenge in 2017 in North America.

At the Road America meeting last weekend, IMSA announced the presence of the LM P3s in the IMSA Prototype Challenge presented by Mazda in 2017.

This new series follows on from the Mazda Prototype Lites presented by Cooper Tires. Seven rounds are on the 2017 calendar of the first staging of the series including five held jointly with the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. Two 45-minute races will be held at each meeting with one exception.

In the PC1 class the series will accept the six LM P3 models homologated by the ACO powered by a unique V8 engine together with the Elan DP02 prototypes powered by Mazda in the PC2 class.

The announcement of this new series received a warm welcome from the teams at Road America where a Ligier JS P3 was on display.

The Ligier JS P3 was the center of attraction over the weekend for the teams and fans, and it triggered a lot of interest among numerous teams and drivers as proved by the fact that JDC Motorsports acquired a Ligier JS P3 for 2017 in the IMSA Prototype Challenge with Gerald Kraut.

To back up its teams in LM P2 and LM P3 in the different IMSA series, Onroak Automotive North America will set up a client support service in 2017 like the one put in place this year for the European Le Mans Series.

Thus, Onroak Automotive North America will attend each round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and all the heats of the IMSA Prototype Challenge with a back-up transporter and personnel dedicated to the teams running the Ligier JS P217s and the Ligier JS P3s next season.
