Michigan International Speedway added about 8,500 linear square feet of Steel and Foam Energy Reduction (SAFER) Barrier for this weekend's racing. With adding the g-force reducing barrier to the outside front stretch and back stretch walls, MIS now has SAFER Barriers around the entire exterior of the racetrack.

MIS also added SAFER Barrier on the inside wall going into Turn 1, on the inside wall exiting Turn 4 and on the inside wall of the front stretch on the other side of pit road facing the grass.

"That certainly was a priority," Curtis said. "It pushed down a few other of our capital investment projects, but that's OK. Anything to do with safety for fans or competitors is going to be our No. 1 priority." MLive
