Hitzinger, who had played a pivotal part in the development of the Porsche 919 Hybrid since the program’s inception, has taken a new job outside of motorsport.
His replacement has yet to be decided.
“On behalf of Porsche I want to thank Alexander Hitzinger very much for his huge contribution to the outstanding successes of the Porsche 919 Hybrid," said Fritz Enzinger, Vice President LMP1.
“He was one of the first people to come on board at the end of 2011. I appreciate his desire for a new challenge."
Enzinger and team principal Andreas Seidl remain at the helm of the two-car LMP1 program, which remains with an unchanged driver lineup in its World Championship title defense.
“We are well prepared for the 2016 season," Enzinger said. “Within our team, which has a total of 260 employees, we also have a remarkably strong group of engineers working for the management team.
