Driver testing race car dies

A man died Saturday when the race car he was testing crashed in Rowan County, NC, the NC State Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said the man was thrown from the car on Performance Road shortly before 11 a.m.

The crash happened near Mooresville Dragway.

The car apparently went off the road and hit a ditch, causing it to roll over. The car had a five-point harness but not a traditional seat belt.

The driver was reportedly test driving repairs made to the car and planned to take the car to where he lived in Canada. The man’s name has not been released. Charlotte Observer
