Petrucci tops second test day at Sepang
Baz was thrown from his Avintia Ducati bike on the start/finish straight in the opening hour of the session, but incredibly walked away.
Although the exact cause of the accident is yet to be confirmed, tire supplier Michelin withdrew its Soft-spec tire, leaving only the Hard.
Petrucci thus ended at the top of the times, with his early 2:00.095 proving difficult to beat on harder rubber and raised tire pressures.
Day 1 pace-setter Lorenzo, recovering from a crash at Turn 5, came closest to moving ahead, getting within six hundredths of Petrucci late on.
Baz's team-mate, Hector Barbera, ended the day third fastest, just in front of lead works Honda rider Marc Marquez and LCR's Cal Crutchlow.
Yamaha's Valentino Rossi was another to improve in the closing stages, usurping the Ducatis of Scott Redding, Andrea Iannone and Casey Stoner.
Stoner was taking part in his first official MotoGP session since retiring from the sport, finishing just over a second off the pace on last year's Desmosedici GP15.
Stoner was also a second quicker than his time on Saturday.
Bradley Smith completed the top 10 positions on his Tech 3 Yamaha, with the other factory Honda of Dani Pedrosa back in 12th, after an accident at Turn 5.
