V8 Supercars To Target Two International Races In Asia By 2017

V8 Supercars "is set to revive its international ambitions with two events in Asia by 2017," according to Mark Fogarty of the Sydney Morning Herald.

In the first step toward gaining a foothold to the north, five leading V8 drivers "will compete in demonstration races at the inaugural Kuala Lumpur City Grand Prix on Saturday and Sunday." The exhibition "is a trial run for V8's planned return to the event, which is being run on a new street circuit in the center of the Malaysian capital, with a full field as part of next year's championship."

V8 Supercars "has signed an agreement to compete at the KL City GP from 2016-19, but the deal depends on the event's future being confirmed."

V8 Supercars "is looking to add another, unspecified, Asian venue to the series in 2017 as it plans an expansion of the championship from 14 to 16 events, including the existing offshore event at Pukekohe Park Raceway, near Auckland, in New Zealand."

V8 Supercars CEO James Warburton: "We have a heads of agreement for 2017 to race at a future destination in Asia, but that is contingent on the facility being built." SMH
