Mortara wins DTM race 1 at the Red Bull Ring

Best Pascal Wehrlein could do was 2nd

Edoardo Mortara won the race on Saturday of the DTM’s visit to the Red Bull Ring. After 29 laps, the Audi driver crossed the finish line while in the lead and secured his third victory in the most popular international touring car series. Behind the Italian, the two Mercedes-Benz drivers Pascal Wehrlein and Paul Di Resta finished second and third.

Behind fourth-placed Christian Vietoris, Mattias Ekstrom only claimed his fifth place on the final lap from Augusto Farfus, who made it home in sixth place. With his second-place finish, Wehrlein moves up into the lead of the drivers’ standings from Jamie Green and starts the second half of the season as ‘half-time champion’. Green, who had started from second place on the grid alongside pole-sitter Mortara, took the lead after the start, but had to retire after three laps due to technical problems.
