Brainerd International Raceway appeals for help to repair storm damage

A storm blew through Brainerd International Raceway Sunday night, causing extensive damage and leading the track to cancel the Wednesday Night Street Drags this week.

As of Monday morning, most of the track was without power. The Ticket Office will be closed until power is restored, and BIR is unable to sell online tickets until power is restored to its computer servers.

The Wednesday Night Street Drags that were scheduled for this Wednesday have been cancelled. As of now, that’s the only event cancelled. So far, the CRA Superbike Racing scheduled for this weekend is still on.

Brainerd 2The storm, with straight-line winds clocked at 60-70 mph, toppled and twisted a section of bleachers on the dragstrip, ripped the roofs off of the press box and the main shop, rolled at least two RVs in the campground, blew down dozens of signs, flipped over large dumpsters and knocked down too many trees to count.

BIR is coordinating volunteers who want to help clean up the track. People with chainsaws are badly needed. We also need people who can help pick up garbage and debris, clear branches and timber, and generally help out with whatever else needs to be done. Dress appropriately and bring work gloves, water and snacks for yourself.

Volunteers should just show up at the front gate for instructions. The Ticket Office is closed so nobody’s answering phones. And please do not attempt to call Jed and Kristi Copham unless it’s an emergency. They’re extremely busy with storm damage at the track and their house.North American Racing – Brainerd International Raceway appeals for help to repair storm damage.
