Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross Qualifying Report

A disappointing qualifying effort for Scott Speed

Scott Speed, No. 77 7UP Volkswagen Polo

  • The only three-time race winner this season in the Red Bull Global Rallycross Series suffered a right rear tire puncture in the first practice session and a right rear de-bead in the final practice session
  • Speed qualified in the ninth position at DirtFish Rally School

"Unfortunately we had a tough start to our day, we had a couple tire issues in the practice sessions that set us back a little bit. The course is extremely rough since it is mostly gravel, so we just need to adjust and get everything situated for tomorrow's rounds. We need to make up some points, so we'll just have to wait and see how everything pans out during the heat rounds and the final."

Tanner Foust qualified the #34 Rockstar Energy Drink Beetle sixth yesterday at DirtFish Rally School

Tanner Foust, No. 34 Rockstar Energy Drink Volkswagen Beetle

  • The 2011 DirtFish Rally Champion qualified in the sixth position
  • The Rockstar Energy Drink Beetle also suffered a left front tire puncture during the final practice round at DirtFish Rally School

"After a long morning filled with all sorts of weather, we finally got the Rockstar Energy Drink Beetle out on the track here at DirtFish. We had a wheel issue early on in the day, so we made some suspension changes and I didn't really run until the qualifying rounds. The track has been incredibly fun and rough, I think the Beetle with its rally heritage did well. I was third coming off the track during qualifying and as the later sessions continued, I ended up in the sixth position. I think all things considered, it has still been a good showing for the Beetle in such a rough atmosphere. Hopefully the weather tomorrow holds off and we're able to start the day off strong."
