Chrysler recalls nearly 350,000 vehicles from 2008 to fix ignition

Chrysler is recalling an estimated 349,442 vehicles from the 2008 model year to fix an ignition switch problem.

The automaker said today it will correct conditions that may cause ignition keys to become stuck or inadvertently move. The vehicles were produced before May 12, 2008.

The recall impacts the 2008 Dodge Charger, Dodge Magnum station wagons, Chrysler 300 sedans, Jeep Commander and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs.

It covers an estimated 292,224 vehicles in the U.S.; 18,976 in Canada; 4,947 in Mexico; and 33,295 outside the NAFTA region, Chrysler said.
Chrysler recommends that customers detach their ignition keys from their key rings.

"Among the vehicles subject to recall, Chrysler Group is aware of a single minor accident that was possibly related to either condition," the automaker said in a statement. “The company is unaware of any related injuries."

Today's callback is similar to a recall announced earlier this year of about 890,000 vehicles produced from January 2007 to June 2010 in which the ignition switch could slip from the "run" position to "accessory" position while driving. This shuts the engine and disables the airbags. No injuries were related to this recall, Chrysler said.
