Tagliani Suspended for Watkins Glen Practice Accident

Alex Tagliani has been suspended for one race and placed on probation for an additional TUDOR United SportsCar Championship round following an accident in practice for last weekend’s Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen.

The veteran open-wheel and sports car driver spun his No. 08 RSR Racing Oreca FLM09 in Saturday’s second practice session and re-entered the track in Turn 10 in front of an oncoming Chris Miller in the No. 85 JDC-Miller Motorsports car.

Both Prototype Challenge entries were severely damaged in the incident but managed to start Sunday’s race.

Tagliani has been determined by IMSA to have violated Rule 48.4 (unjustifiable risk).

Ironically, the ruling comes after the Quebec driver was collected in a similar style incident at Sebring, which resulted in a one-race suspension for Gaston Kearby, due to an improper re-entry to the track.

With PC cars not in action next weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, Tagliani will be forced to miss the Brickyard Grand Prix.
