Video: Kurt Busch Crashes in Indy 500 Practice

Kurt Busch has had his first crash at Indianapolis Motor Speedway during practice for Sunday's Indianapolis 500 and he's OK.

Busch, driving a fifth car for Andretti Autosport, seemed to lose control of it going into Turn 2 and smacked the wall hard, sending flames out from behind his No. 26.

He had turned 56 laps in Monday's practice session for the 33-driver field.

"The car is probably gonna need extensive rebuild," Busch said. "I don't know if we'll get back out today. We do have Carb Day (Friday) to shake things down. We'll get back on our horse and give this thing a try again."

Girlfriend Patricia Driscoll tweeted that the driver was OK.

Busch is trying to become the fourth driver to attempt the motorsports' double — driving 1,100 miles in the Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600 combo on Sunday. The 2004 NASCAR Sprint Cup champion hasn't raced an IndyCar before.

He just missed qualifying in the Fast Nine — the group of drivers who competed for the pole Sunday — and will start 12th.

Monday's practice session is slated to run until 5 p.m. ET and is the final session before Friday's one-hour Carb Day. Rain plagued last week's practice sessions, limiting drivers' time on the 2.5-mile superspeedway.
