Because of its prestige and importance, as well as the atmosphere of excitement that comes with the beginning of a new season, the Daytona 500 tickets are almost always the most expensive NASCAR tickets. Over the next three years, however, Daytona is looking to eliminate 46,000 seats, which means that ticket prices will be a lot more expensive in 2016 when the renovation is complete. If you have not already purchased tickets for the 2014 event, there are some tickets left in the primary market as well as a large selection on the secondary market.

The price for tickets in the primary and secondary market, however, are pretty close to each other. This year’s average secondary market ticket price of $263 is the highest of the past five years, since TiqIQ began tracking pricing data for the race. Prices for this year’s event are up 4.4% over last year’s average price of $253, but up substantially more from the 2011 and 2010 average prices of $195 and $171.

There most expensive seating area for Daytona 500 tickets for this years race are in the Sprint Tower, which is only available in the primary market as part of a $1,800 package. At an average price of $602 on the secondary market, the Sprint Tower is almost double the price of the next most expensive tower with availability on the secondary market, and not only provides the best view of the entire track, but also the swankiest setting. The Nextel, Earnhardt and Petty Towers are the next best sections, but tickets there are only available as part of packages that have to be purchased directly from the Daytona International Speedway.

The Roberts and Weatherly Towers are next best option with tickets available on the secondary market. The average price for Roberts and Weatherly Towers on the secondary market is around $300, and there are no tickets the left in those towers on the primary market. If that’s too much, look into the DePalma and Seagrave Towers, both of which are cheaper on the secondary market. If you just want to get into the event, the Lund Terrace is your best bet. The average price on the secondary market for Lund Terrace tickets is $100, compared to $85 in the primary market.

Last year’s Daytona 500 winner was Jimmie Johnson, who went on to win the Sprint Cup Series at the end of the season. Johnson is one of ten drivers who have won the Daytona 500 multiple times. With another win this year, Johnson could join Jeff Gordon and Dale Jarrett as three time winners of the race. However, he would still have a long way to go to tie Richard Petty, who won the Daytona 500 a record seven times. Regardless of who ends up winning the race, each turn will be a part of racing history, and the beginning of another Chase For The Cup.
