Travis Kvapil will drive BK Racing entry at Charlotte (Update)
"BK Racing understands the severity of the situation and we don't condone the actions that Travis has been accused of," commented Ron Devine, co-owner of BK Racing. "We feel it's important to let the system take its course. For that reason, we have elected to support Travis and his family and keep Travis in the car for this weekend's race. 10/10/13 BK Racing has opted to stand behind Travis Kvapil and allow the driver to remain behind the wheel of the No. 93 Toyota this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Kvapil, 37, was charged Tuesday night with assault on a female and false imprisonment. He was released Wednesday morning and faces a Nov. 19 court date.
“After discussions with NASCAR and the Kvapil family, BK Racing has elected to support Travis and his family," co-owner Ron Devine told FOX Sports on Thursday. “It’s the right thing for Travis and his family to let the system take its course.
“He has the ability to set aside the issues and focus, and he’s prepared to race this weekend."
NASCAR issued a statement: "NASCAR does not condone the actions with which Travis Kvapil has been charged and we are disappointed to learn of this incident. We have been in close communication with the race team and are in the process of gathering as much information as possible. NASCAR takes this matter very seriously and will continue to monitor the situation as it moves forward."
According to Mooresville, N.C., police, shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday officers “responded to the Kvapil residence following a 911 phone call regarding an assault. (The) Mooresville Police Department conducted an investigation and arrested Kvapil following a domestic dispute between the defendant and his wife."
Kvapil spent the night in jail because the courts were closed. He was released at 9:50 a.m. on an unsecured bond, according to Iredell County, N.C., court officials.
Kvapil is currently 31st in the NASCAR Sprint Cup standings. In 240 Cup starts, his best finish was sixth at Talladega in 2008.
Prior to Kvapil’s seven seasons on the Sprint Cup tour, he won the NASCAR Truck championship in 2003.
