IndyCar manufacturer’s race to be decided in finale

Scott Dixon, driving the Honda-powered No. 9 Target Chip Ganassi Racing car, won Race 1 of the Shell and Pennzoil Grand Prix of Houston. Will Power won Race 2 in the No. 12 Verizon Team Penske car with a Chevrolet engine.

That means the IZOD IndyCar Series manufacturer's title will be decided in the final race of the season Oct. 19 at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif.

The manufacturers enter the finale tied in their championship points duel. Both have nine victories.

"It's a shame we were unable to score our 10th win, but we will do everything we can in the next two weeks to bring the manufacturer's championship home to Honda," Honda Performance Development technical director Roger Griffiths said.

Jim Campbell, U.S. vice president performance vehicles and motorsports for Chevrolet, said: "Congratulations to Will Power, Tim Cindric and the No. 12 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet IndyCar team on their win in Houston. Engine manufacturer competition returned to the IZOD IndyCar Series in 2012. Chevrolet won the title last year.
