Last Saturday the world's most watched sports league made a successful debut on NBC and NBC Sports Network. Saturday's network game between Swansea City-Manchester United game averaged 792,000 viewers. The four NBC Sports Network telecasts Saturday and Sunday averaged 356,000 viewers. By comparison an estimated 195,000 viewers watched the most recent IndyCar race at Mid-Ohio.
Considering the Premier League's opening weekend outperformed last year's same weekend on Fox Soccer and ESPN, shows there is potential for NBC Sports. The network did use some creative marketing, and ran numerous hours of auxiliary programming in the lead-up.
