Johnny O’Connell to make NASCAR debut at Road America

Add Johnny O’Connell to the list of NASCAR “road course ringers," at least in the Nationwide Series.

O’Connell, who races full-time for Cadillac Racing’s Pirelli World Challenge GT class program, will make his Nationwide debut in JR Motorsports’ No. 5 CorvetteParts.net Chevrolet at Elkhart Lake’s Road America on June 22.

“Over the years, competing in NASCAR is something I’ve always wanted to do, but I never thought I’d get the opportunity," O’Connell said in a release. “To be given that shot with JR Motorsports is something that I fully expect to dedicate 100% of my effort to."

O’Connell will be teammates with Regan Smith, the Nationwide Series points leader.
