Trucks champ Ron Hornaday faces sanctions in Rockingham wreck

Four-time Camping World Truck Series champion Ron Hornaday faces sanctions that could range from a fine to suspension for intentionally wrecking Darrell Wallace Jr. under caution Sunday at Rockingham Speedway. Hornaday, 54, said he meant to tap Wallace, 19, to show his displeasure but not wreck him with seven laps remaining in the race. Wallace was done for the day and finished 27th. Hornaday was sent to the tail end of the lead lap for aggressive driving. He improved one position over the final two laps to finish 15th.

"I didn't know the yellow was out and I got down in there and started racing on the back straightaway and he slowed up and then I run into him a little bit," said Hornaday, who has 51 career wins and 200 consecutive starts in the series.

"I went over to the other side (of him) and I don't know if he hit his brakes on me or whatever, but I turned him in the fence and I feel like a total idiot."
pppo The incident is under review, a NASCAR spokesman said. Any penalties would be announced later this week.

Ironically, it was Hornaday who was wrecked by Kyle Busch under caution in 2011 at Texas Motor Speedway. Busch was suspended the remainder of the Texas weekend, where he missed both the Nationwide and Sprint Cup events.

Wallace, a Joe Gibbs Racing development driver, competes in the trucks for Kyle Busch Motorsports. He is the sports only African-American full-time national series driver.
