Kyle Busch crew chief fined

NASCAR fined Kyle Busch crew chief Dave Rogers $25,000 for improperly attached weight that inspectors found on the No. 18 car during practice Saturday at Michigan International Speedway.

The penalty explains an incident during the final practice Saturday when David Reutimann was driving the car for Busch because Busch was on his way to the Nationwide Series race in Montreal. Reutimann heard a bang and thought he ran over something, punching a hole in the right front fender.

With NASCAR announcing the penalty, it appears that a piece of tungsten came off the No. 18 car itself. NASCAR did not dock points from the team for the infraction, so Busch remains 14th in the Sprint Cup standings.

Rogers and car chief Wesley Sherrill were placed on probation through Oct. 3.

Probation means that if the Joe Gibbs Racing team commits similar violations between now and Oct. 3, the penalties for those future infractions could be more severe.
