IndyCar re-signs with TMS for 2013
The speedway released its 2013 schedule, which includes bringing IndyCar back for a 17th consecutive year and two NASCAR Sprint Cup weekends for the ninth consecutive season.
The track released its schedule even though speedway president Eddie Gossage is still in the final stages of completing race sanction agreements with IndyCar and NASCAR.
After the IndyCar race this summer, there was uncertainty about the series returning to the 1½-mile high-banked oval in 2013, since there hadn't been any discussions then between Gossage and IndyCar CEO Randy Bernard.
While some drivers raised issues about safety concerns at Texas, the first IndyCar race at a high-speed banked oval since Dan Wheldon's death in Las Vegas in the 2011 season finale, the June race won by Justin Wilson went without a hitch.
Texas and Gossage have been big supporters of IndyCar, but the fallout from Wheldon's fatal accident and financial negotiations put the 2012 race in jeopardy, and a final deal for that wasn't reached until late December.
There have been 24 IndyCar races at Texas since the track opened in 1997. That included twin races on the same night in 2010.
