IndyCar adding 20 sec. of P2P for Edmonton

After implementing its new turbocharged version of Push-to-Pass at Toronto, INDYCAR has added 20 more seconds of boost for next weekend's race at Edmonton, and more changes are on the way.

The series opted for a somewhat modest re-introduction of P-t-P at Toronto, offering a 1.5 psi spike in turbo boost. A total of 100 seconds of P-t-P was available for Toronto, and with that figure set to be tailored for every track, the series evaluated the upcoming race at the twisty but not-so-easy-to-pass 13-turn, 2.2-mile airport circuit and decided an extra 20 seconds of P-t-P time would benefit the show.

Turning up the boost, however, isn't in the immediate plans.

"I'm not expecting any changes in boost levels [for Edmonton], but we have to be mindful of the manufacturers," said Will Phillips, the series' VP of Technology.

"Adding a magnitude of extra boost would require the manufacturers to alter compression ratios and other things, I'm sure. It involves work that has longer lead times, so therefore we won't be increasing or changing the boost levels from event to event at the moment."
