Weekly NASCAR Cheating Report
Based on post-race technical inspection after Friday’s International Motorsports Hall of Fame 250 at Talladega, the Win-Tron Racing No. 32 team has been fined $6,000 and team owner Kevin Cywinski and driver Brandon McReynolds have been penalized with the loss of 100 championship points.
The penalties were issued for violation of the minimum rear quarter panel height rule per the 2012 ARCA Rule Book and race event technical bulletin.
The victory was the first ARCA triumph for McReynolds in only his seventh series start. He was on the verge of winning the season opener at Daytona Int’l Speedway in February before running out of gas at the exit of turn four on the last lap. (In NASCAR if you ain't wrecking you ain't racing, and if you ain't cheat'n you ain't win'n.)
05/08/12 Penske Racing was penalized for illegal nose pieces found on the team's two Nationwide Series cars during last week's inspection at Talladega Superspeedway.
The infractions and penalties were nearly identical to the punishment handed down to Richard Childress Racing and Turner Motorsports for similar issues two weeks ago at Richmond International Raceway
Crew chiefs Jeremy Bullins (No. 22 team) and Chad Walter (No. 12 team) have each been fined $10,000 and placed on NASCAR probation until Dec. 31. Additionally, the teams' respective car chiefs – Thomas Clavette (No. 22) and Raymond Fox (No. 12) – have been placed on NASCAR probation until Dec. 31.
The front lower bumper covers of the cars driven by Brad Keselowski and Sam Hornish Jr. were found to be outside the guidelines of the rulebook.
