Goodyear schedules tire tests for repaved tracks at Michigan, Pocono

When NASCAR visits Pocono Raceway and Michigan International Speedway in June, they’ll run back-to-back events at tracks that have been repaved during the offseason.

Not only will drivers and crew chiefs need to learn about the new surfaces, they’ll have to learn how a new tire works on that track.

Goodyear has scheduled tire tests at both those tracks as well as at Dover International Speedway and New Hampshire International Speedway in the upcoming weeks.

NASCAR and Goodyear work together to choose drivers and teams for each tire tests, trying to divide them among different teams and car manufacturers.

Goodyear likes to have drivers that have been successful at a track because they should know how the tire should feel on that surface and layout.

The upcoming tests and drivers:

Michigan (April 3-4): Brad Keselowski (Dodge), Matt Kenseth (Ford), Jeff Gordon (Chevrolet), Juan Pablo Montoya (Chevrolet).

Dover (April 17-18): Marcos Ambrose (Ford), AJ Allmendinger (Dodge), Kevin Harvick (Chevrolet), Dave Blaney (Chevrolet), Ryan Newman (Chevrolet), Kurt Busch (Chevrolet), Martin Truex Jr. (Toyota)

Pocono (April 24-25): Jamie McMurray (Chevrolet), Kasey Kahne (Chevrolet), Joey Logano (Toyota), AJ Allmendinger (Dodge), Aric Almirola (Ford).

New Hampshire (May 8-9): Paul Menard (Chevrolet), Bobby Labonte (Toyota), Regan Smith (Chevrolet), Dale Earnhardt Jr. (Chevrolet), Carl Edwards (Ford). Sporting News
