Former SCCA Pro Racing President Bob Anderson Passes Away

Former SCCA Pro Racing President Robert D. (Bob) Anderson died Friday after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. He was 76.

Anderson joined the Sports Car Club of America staff in 1984 as General Manager of the SCCA Pro Racing division. A year later, Anderson was promoted to Vice President, at which time he assume the day-to-day management of the department.
Under his guidance, the Trans-Am Championship enjoyed a resounding resurgence that saw national television exposure, prize money postings and fan attendance reach record levels.
During his tenure, SCCA Pro Racing enjoyed record profits and the division was spun off as a wholly owned subsidiary, SCCA Pro Racing, Ltd., and Anderson was the company’s first-ever President.
“Bob had a commanding presence, was well-respected throughout the racing community and will certainly be missed," SCCA President & CEO Tom Campbell said. “He was responsible for the early successes of SCCA Pro Racing, and our thoughts are with his family in this difficult time."
Before joining the SCCA staff on a full-time basis, Anderson was a longtime member of the ‘field’ staff, dating to the 1970 season. He served as the Trans-Am Series Chief Steward from 1978 to 1984.
Racing was a passion of Anderson’s from the tender age of 15, when he joined the crew of a AAA stock car team. Following a stint in the Air Force, Anderson became a member of the SCCA (1961) and began racing as a driver.
In addition to his work in racing Bob enjoyed snowmobiling, ATVs, car clubs and was passionate about almost all sports. Most of all, he was devoted to his family.
Anderson is survived by his wife Joyce and daughters Linda and Cheryl, their husbands and 4 grandchildren.
The immediate family will be holding private ceremonies at Fort Logan National Military Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to be made to the Exempla Lutheran Hospice Collier Center, 3210 Lutheran Parkway, Wheatridge, Colo. 80033.
